Hagerman IDEA replaces Hagerman Fossil Council -   In 1989 the Hagerman Fossils National Monument Council, Inc., commonly known as the Fossil Council, was formed to: foster and promote the National Monument; seek funds and perform activities the would offer the public easier access to the site and more easily stay in the area; and, perform such other missions as are compatible with promotion and protection of the National Monument. In recent years the Fossil Council lost its founders and many members. IDEA's leadership, saw that Fossil Council was failing and recognized that the Council's mission was important to the community as well as to the Monument and so stepped forward to replace the Fossil Council as the Monument's cooperating, private-sector partner. By taking this step IDEA ensured that in-progesss projects (summer interns, signing and visitor center displays) were completed. IDEA will continue to partner with the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument to meet its mission and goals.

Hagerman City Park Improvements -  IDEA intends to partner with the Hagerman Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Hagerman Events Committee to build a permanent stage/bandstand in Coltharp Park.

Hagerman City Park Safety Improvements -  IDEA has committed to provide the City of Hagerman with some financial support to help cover the cost of removal of hazardous trees in the park and replacing them with more suitable park tress.

Hagerman City Park Playground -  IDEA will initiate a project to improve the playground in Coltharp Park.

School Field Trip Busing Cost -  IDEA is cooperating with the Hagerman National Fish Hatchery (USFWS), the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument (NPS) and local State Parks (IDPR) to facilitate elementary school childrens' visits to area natural resource sites. The program provides funding to partially or totally offset the cost of transporting children from area schools to visit local State and Federal sites.

Thousand Springs Scenic Byway Improvements -  IDEA, as the Community's Gem Committee actively participates on the local scenic byway committee and works with other stakeholders along the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway to implement the Corridor Management Plan. We are particularly interested in helping to design and fund interpretive signing and recreation opportunity development projects in our area.

NWCDI Scholarship -  In an effort to support "community capacity building", Hagerman IDEA, Inc., has set up a 3-year, $500 annual challenge scholarship to cover lodging costs for a local leader who has been able to finance their tuition costs for the Northwest Community Development Institue by obtaining other scholarships or by investing their own funds.

Gem Community Committee -  IDEA will continue to serve as Hagerman's Gem Community Committee at the discretion of the City Council and work to implement the goals and objectives in the Gem Community Action Plan.

Cooperation Among Local, State and Federal Agencies and Organizations -  Building on the original Cooperation in Planning agreement signed by 15 Federal, State and local agencies, and organizations in 2006 IDEA will support the effort to udpate and renew the Memorandum of Understanding and foster local planning effort to define a vision of the future for our area and seek opportunities for collaboration and cooperation among the Federal, State and local agencies and entities in our area to better and more efficiently serve our citizens and our visitors.

Shared Visitor Center/Museum/Library - IDEA will continue to support any effort to secure funding to procure an existing or new facility that would provide office and public contact space for a Visitor Center, Public Library, Museum and other participating, local non-profits and possibly even office space for qualifying public agencies.

Support for Other Community Entities and Initiatives -  IDEA will continue to seek opportunities to work with and support other local non-profit organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, Youth Athletics, Senior Center, American Legion, Televisions Translator District and Fossil Council.

Completed Projects

Blues in the Park -  For seven years IDEA's produced an annual "Blues in the Park" music festival at Billingsley Creek State Park. The event generated customers for local businesses and promoted the community and the local State Park.

Idaho's Bounty -  We take great pride in having sponsored the formation of the Idaho's Bounty Cooperative. This food marketing and distribution co-op promotes local food crop production, educates consumers about the health benefits of fresh local foods, educates producers about growing and marketing their products and improves the local economy by creating markets for local producers.

Public Parking -  IDEA facilitated a public parking lot project in the center of the city in conjunction with construction of a new market. This public/private collaboration was completed in August 2003. The project resulted in removal of a number of unsafe old buildings, construction of a new grocery store, creation of jobs and a new city-owned public parking lot in the central block of Hagerman which benefits residents and visitors alike by providing parking for the City Offices, the Hagerman Historical Society Museum and all of the surrounding downtown businesses.

Thousand Springs Scenic Byway -  IDEA facilitated an agreement among the Hagerman Valley and Bliss Chambers of Commerce and the City of Bliss which allowed the Hagerman Valley Chamber to partner with the the Southern Idaho Tourism, using State tourism grant fund to purchase a new sign for the billboard that advertises the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway. IDEA also participates on the local byway committee along with representative from all the communities along the byway, Idaho Transportation Department and Southern Idaho Tourism. The committee works to implement the recently updated and revised Thousand Springs Scenic Corridor Management Plan. Projects identified in the plan include new visitor orientation kiosks interpretive panels and signing.
